Barrhaven is a rapidly growing suburban neighbourhood in southwest Ottawa. Barrhaven is bounded to the north by the Greenbelt, to the east by the Rideau River, to the west by Highway 416, and to the south by the new Half Moon Bay development along Cambrian Road south of the Jock River. Barrhaven is a wonderful family community, containing several public and Catholic schools (both French and English), numerous parks, and playgrounds. It is also home to the Walter Baker Sports Centre which contains a library and other facilities.
The main commercial district, Barrhaven Marketplace, surrounds the intersection of Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road, with a seven-screen cinema, Loblaws, Wal-Mart, Farm Boy, Your Independent Grocer, Indigo Books and Music, Staples, Winners, Homesense, Sport Chek, Starbucks, and Best Buy, among others. The Minto Recreation Complex, a multi-use community centre at the corner of Cambrian and Greenbank, opened in 2014. A major employment district was established in 2015 in the area west of Strandherd Drive adjacent to Highway 416, known as the CitiGate corporate campus, as well as the Costco store that opened in fall of 2016, and an Amazon warehouse that was built in 2021.
